The story follows an ambitious Jewish artist from Flatbush, whose family name is called Diamond. As he grows up, he finds his place as a performer at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, immediately signs a record deal that comes back to haunt him, and as years go on, he walks away from one marriage and another. According to previous reports, singer-songwriter Neil Diamond-Then will be played by Tony nominee Will Swenson, who most recently played in the Off-Broadway revival of Assassins. Neil Diamond-Now will be played by Tony contender Mark Jacoby, talented performer Robyn Hurder as Marcia, while Linda Powell is cast as the Doctor.
