The story follows an anxious Jewish artist from Flatbush, whose family name is called Diamond. As he grows up, he finds his feet as a performer at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, continuing to sign a record deal that comes back to bite him hard, and as years go on, he walks away from one marriage after another. According to prior reports, singer-songwriter Neil Diamond-Then will be played by Tony nominee Will Swenson, who most recently appeared in the Off-Broadway revival of Assassins. Neil Diamond-Now will be played by Mark Jacoby, Robyn Hurder as Marcia, while Linda Powell is cast as the Doctor.
The creative team comprises Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer, highly acclaimed Anthony McCarten, and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett.
