The story follows an ambitious Jewish artist from Flatbush, whose family name is called Diamond. As he grows up, he finds his place as a performer at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, immediately signs a record deal that comes back to bite him hard, and as years pass by, he comes away from one marriage and another. According to previous reports, singer-songwriter Neil Diamond-Then will be played by Will Swenson, who most recently played in the Off-Broadway revival of Assassins. Neil Diamond-Now will be played by Tony contender Mark Jacoby, Robyn Hurder as Marcia, while Linda Powell is cast as the Doctor.
The creative team comprises Highly regarded director esteemed director Michael Mayer, four-time Oscar nominee Anthony McCarten, and Olivier Award-winning choreographer Steven Hoggett.
