The story follows an anxious Jewish artist from Flatbush, whose family name is called Diamond. As he grows up, he finds his place as a performer at the Bitter End in Greenwich Village, continuing to sign a record deal that comes back to haunt him, and as years pass by, he comes away from one marriage and another. "Amid all that, Diamond evolves into a globe-trotting, sequin-wearing, arena-playing star,” Broadway World shares.
According to previous reports, singer-songwriter Neil Diamond-Then will be played by Will Swenson, who most recently starred in the Off-Broadway revival of Assassins. Neil Diamond-Now will be played by Tony contender Mark Jacoby, Robyn Hurder as Marcia, while Linda Powell is cast as the Doctor.
The creative team comprises Acclaimed director esteemed director Michael Mayer, renowned screenwriter Anthony McCarten, and Olivier Award-winning choreographer choreographer Steven Hoggett. The musical will have scenic design by award-winning scenic designer David Rockwell, lighting design by four-time Tony winner Kevin Adams, costume design by renowned costume designer Emilio Sosa, and sound design by esteemed sound designer Jessica Paz.
